Keto Tips

3/24 If Nathan has been having some difficulty with the fat content at lunch, you could certainly try increasing the kale slightly to see if that improves tolerance. Another option would be to reduce the added oil a bit and instead increase the macadamia nuts at lunch to help maintain his fat intake. Alternatively, if it feels easier for Nathan, it may also be worth considering increasing his fat intake through the MCT oil in his bedtime fat bomb. That might also help promote ketosis overnight if his seizures tend to happen at night or in the early morning. These are just a few ideas that might help, and I’m very happy to adjust based on what works best for Nathan. Please don’t hesitate to reach out with any questions or updates—I’m always happy to help. Thank you so much again for your collaboration! Sincerely, Wing

Ramelteon

Ramelteon (brand name Rozerem) is a melatonin receptor agonist used to treat insomnia, specifically targeting difficulty with sleep onset. It acts as a sedative-hypnotic by targeting   and   receptors in the brain to regulate the sleep-wake cycle, rather than acting on GABA receptors like many traditional sedatives.

gastric stasis

Great question. I think Google explains it better than I can: Migraines cause nausea and slow digestion (gastroparesis) because the attack overstimulates the brainstem and autonomic nervous system, which regulates stomach function. This neurological disruption triggers "gastric stasis," where the stomach stops moving food along, causing nausea, vomiting, and delayed medication absorption. I have found that if I have a bad migraine it doesn't do me any good to take ibuprofen unless my stomach is totally empty. Otherwise it just sits in my stomach for hours and does me no good at all.

citrulline

Trying NOW L-Citrulline 750 mg Does not interact with meds or other supplements.  Watch for low blood pressure. -------------- Hello Dr. Frye, We are excited to see you in a couple months and discuss the most recent gene testing we've done with Nathan; We've found out that Nathan has an MT-ATP6 mutation. As our appointment with you is a couple months out, we are wanting to be proactive about this new information and are thinking of adding citrulline to the mito cocktail you've prescribed. We wanted to know what you thought and if there was a specific doseage/brand you would recommend. Thanks, Janelle Pure Encapsulations Nitric Oxide Ultra - 2 capsules twice a day

Keto & Mito

When you’re consistently following a well-formulated ketogenic diet, your body remains in a state of nutritional ketosis, marked by the production of the ketone body beta-hydroxybutyrate (BHB). Research suggests that BHB and other ketones may lower inflammation by activating genes that help mitochondria — the energy-producing parts of our cells — work more efficiently, while also lowering oxidative stress, which can damage cells over time. (6)  In addition, emerging research suggests that BHB can potentially block the NLRP3 inflammasome. (7)   Finally, ketogenic diets have been shown to help reduce neuroinflammation, a contributing factor in psychiatric and neurodegenerative disorders. (8)
